Welcome to SiriKind
Educate the Children of this World, one Stitch at a Time!
SiriKind was conceived in an attempt to support children's education and well being in developing countries, while at the same time raising the awareness of children in the developed world for sustainability, nature, and the care of one-of-a-kind valuable items.
We focus on one type of item only: Knitwear outfits for high-end dolls, the kind meant to be a child's treasured companion for years, or a doll collector's joy. We offer to you three types of products to enhance these dolls, and to support our goals:
1. Knitting patterns for doll outfits.
Our patterns are carefully designed, unique, well-written, suitable for a wide range of hand knitters, from beginners to advanced skill levels. The patterns come to you quickly as a pdf. 100% of the price of our patterns goes to an organization that supports school fellowships for girls in developing countries (Girl's education section section of Room to Read).
2. Knitting kits.
These contain a hard copy of the pattern, but also supply you with all materials needed to complete the outfit. Our focus for the kits is on natural materials. Natural fibers are lovely and typically of high quality. Your child (or you, if you are a doll collector) can appreciate a "special" item made of a luxury fiber, or simply enjoy the look and feel of a pure wool sweater. In addition, natural fibers provide income for people in rural communities and developing countries. They assure that old sheep breeds are still propagated, that colored cotton varieties are grown again, and that Peru's "alpaquero" families can support themselves living their traditional lifestyle. They connect us with plants and animals, and with the people who care for them and whose livelihood depends on them. 100% of the net profit of our kit sales goes the Girl's education section of Room to Read. (we subtract the cost of the materials, printing the patterns, and packaging the kits. We do not charge for our time).
Please visit's SiriKind's donation webpage at Room to Read to follow our progress or to make a personal donation to Room to Read's Girl's education program:
3. NEW! Fair-trade produced, hand-knit, natural-wool doll sweaters.
In 2009, SiriKind has partnered with a school for socially and economically deprived pupils in Nepal. The school incorporates an income-generating project and is a certified Fair Trade organization. We have worked with knitting teachers at the school to develop hand-knit products that favorably combine our patterns, the impressive skills of the Nepalese hand knitters, and the New Zealand 100% natural wool hand-dyed at the school. SiriKind pays on average 1-2 daily wages plus materials per doll sweater, so expect a carefully worked and long-lasting piece. Please email us if you would like tom learn more about our partner, or wish to directly donate to the school.
Our first hand-made sweaters are now available under the "Fair Trade Products" tab. Our styles are chunky, casual-size and resemble thereby typical "fair trade" sweaters founds for adults.
Please visit our new Fair Trade Products tab and reward yourself or a non-knitter with a lovely product while supporting low-income mothers and children in Nepal!
A note to our dear customers:
Your numbers are growing steadily, which is the most lovely thing! Therefore, we want you explain better to you how our ordering system works: When you submit an order (including the free pattern) through PayPal, we get a note that you have done so. We then manually activate your order (until we do so, you are not charged!). For patterns, you then receive a second email with a link and a password, and instructions how to download the pattern. For kits and fair-trade products, we then walk over to the local post office to mail you a package. We check and process orders about every other day, so expect to receive your pdf in about 48 hours +/- a few. If it doesn't seem to come by then, give a shout (email address below). Thanks for your patience with those slow human beings at the other end of this lovely fast website!
